Missing Ink are very proud to present the official iPhone App for The Independent and Independent on Sunday newspapers, downloadable from the App Store for free here.

The Independent App is our first App to use Missing Ink Studios’ Newsdesk Application framework – a cost effective way for content and IP owners to create branded iPhone apps constantly updated with text, audio or video content and driven by RSS and XML feeds.  You can find more information on Newsdesk here.

The key difference between the Independent iPhone App and other news apps is that all content can be can read  offline, so you can continue reading the all the news stories even when your mobile signal is intermittent or not available. 

Downloading the 150 plus stories that the Independent publishes on the App every day takes about a minute on a Wi-Fi connection and a few minutes on a normal mobile connection.  Stories can be read whilst you are downloading.

Features include

• Full story and picture download, allowing offline browsing when fully downloaded.  No frustrating waiting for links to pages when you don’t have a signal.
• User defined expiry date for articles – Keep articles on the app for 2 days, a week or longer before they are auto deleted.
• Bookmarking stories – the ability to save stories for reading later, which are never deleted until you choose to delete them individually
• Email Stories – send email with the story link to friends
• Font size increase and decrease within stories.
• Refresh – ability to manually refresh all categories to catch the latest news as it happens

Missing Ink and Eucalyptus go Galactic with five Hitchhiker's eBook apps

In conjunction with our production partners, Things Made Out Of Other Things, and their Eucalyptus reader, we are delighted to announce the launch of all five of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books as eBook apps for the iPhone.

Pan Macmillan is celebrating thirty years of planet-hopping comic genius with the publication of special editions of Douglas Adams’ iconic books.

Each ebook, specifically designed for the iPhone, features

• The full novel, which feels like reading a book, not a web page, with page turning so natural you won’t even notice it, thanks to the fabulous Eucalyptus reader.
• High quality fonts and typesetting to provide the optimal reading experience, meaning you can get lost in the story, not frustrated by the text.

• Exclusive material from the Pan Macmillan archive.
• Links to purchase paperback versions, the other ebook apps, radio scripts and audio books

 'Enhanced' version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

A further version of the App will be released in October allowing you to upgrade for free, with even more archive material including audio clips, historic book covers and radio script excerpts.

Also accompanying the enhanced upgrade to book one, in October, we will be enabling in-app purchasing in all five ebooks, allowing readers to purchase and download directly, and so grow their Hitchhiker's ebook collection.
